What is the Windows Registry?
Microsoft
Windows categorizes and organizes its inventory of programs,
applications, processes and drivers within a central database
called "the registry".
The
registry is a crucial component of your operating system - much
like the computer's own "key ring" for your hardware,
programs, games, software and even background functions.

Windows version (95 to Vista) in this

Why is My Computer Running So Much Slower Than it Used to?
There
could be a variety of reasons for this, including, but not limited
to:
a)
A multitude of programs that load on startup, using up memory
& processing capacity.
b)
Viruses, Adware, Malware or Spyware (we recommend using a reputable
anti-virus program & an anti-spyware program, conducting
frequent scans and program updates).
c)
A damaged or under-optimized Windows Registry
d)
Actual physical damage or incorrect configuration
RegistryRemedies.com
deals with how to diagnose and repair reason "C" -
problems with the Windows Registry.

3.
How do I know if I have a problem with the Registry - or if
it's something else like a virus, etc?
To
isolate the registry as the problem, you'll need to first of
all conduct a comprehensive virus, adware, spyware and malware
scan using the leading scanning programs (such as Norton Anti-Virus,
SpyBot, AdAware, etc.) to ensure that your computer isn't infected
or affected by such a problem.
Then,
you'll need to conduct a scan of your registry using a reputable
registry scanner such as RegCure.

Can I Fix My Windows Registry On My Own?
Theoretically,
yes, you can. If you are a trained computer technician, well-versed
in the technicalities of the Windows operating system, then
editing the registry safely may be something you might consider.
Introductory details on how to do this can be found in this
article.
However,
if you're not 100% confident with editing your system's registry
keys, folders and settings, attempting to modify your registry
in any way carries with it some substantial risks.
Please
be aware that even the slightest change - even seemingly "safe"
or "simple" changes to your registry settings - can
potentially render your operating system totally useless!
It's
not uncommon for hopeful "DIYer's" to end up stuck
with only one option - reinstalling windows completely.
Instead,
try using "System Restore" if you're using Windows
2000 or newer to reset your PC back to a restore-point prior
to the problems that have been occuring with your registry.
Or,
an even better route is to use a reputable registry repair program
like RegCure
to automatically scan, diagnose & safely repair registry
problems for you - saving you the hassle of trying to "rescue"
your own PC - which can often do just the opposite...

What's the Best Way to Repair My PC's Registry?
As
mentioned above, the fastest, safest (and best) way to repair
or optimize your Windows Registry is to use an effective registry
cleaner. See our reviews
of the leading registry repair programs here.

6.
Will Registry Cleaner Software Fix My Computer For Good?
Though
a reputable program will fix the current registry problems completely,
your registry needs to be cleaned and maintained every so often,
on a regular basis.
For
this reason, you should look for a program that has the option
of scheduling frequent registry scans/cleaning sessions - for
example, on a weekly or monthly basis. We recommend RegCure,
which has scheduling features.
This
is because what causes the gradual "breakdown"
of the registry is general computer usage - installing/uninstalling
applications, browsing the internet, saving files, changing
settings, installing or removing hardware, upgrading drivers
- and so on.
