3 Ways to Diagnose & Fix Registry Errors

If you are experiencing problems with your computer, you are not alone. Almost every computer user experiences some sort of computer frustration along the way. The only difference being the frequency with which problems occur and the extent of the damage that is done.

Common Computer Problems and Their Possible Causes

Here are some of the problems most computer users come up against:

The computer takes much longer to start up than before
The computer runs a lot slower than before
The system constantly freezes or crashes
Error messages, such as ‘Invalid Registry key’ or ‘Cannot Locate Driver’ keep popping up much too often
Some of the programs and games cannot be opened
Internet pages take forever to open
A blue screen full of messages keeps appearing

Some of the possible causes of these problems include:

Driver Problems
Hardware Failure
Virus Infection
Registry Corruption
Application Incompatibility
Misconfiguration

To complicate matters further, any one of the reasons could cause a whole series of problems, making it that much more difficult to recommend a cure. More often than not, computer problems originate with errors within the registry, but you cannot just presume that.

Here are three easy steps that will help you diagnose and fix registry errors, if and when do you run into any of these problems with your computer.

1- Eliminate all possible causes

In order to pinpoint the exact cause of the problem you will have to do a systematic elimination of all possible causes. Ensure that all your settings including your internet connection settings are properly configured and your computer is cleared of all obvious junk such as game downloads and other useless program downloads. All else being okay, run an anti-virus and Spyware/Adware scan to rule out the possibility of your computer being affected by any malicious program. Almost any online activity, whether it is downloading music, watching online videos, playing video games or even just opening your mail or surfing the internet increases your computer’s vulnerability to spyware and adware infections. An appropriate scan will reveal all the dangerous programs lurking within your system.

If none of the above tests turn up positive, there is a strong likelihood that the problems are due to errors within the registry.

2- Do a Google search to confirm registry error as the possible culprit

Once you rule out other possible causes and suspect that registry error is the culprit, you need to confirm this before taking any further action. Go to Google, and conduct a search for the exact, word-for-word message that is displayed on your PC. Your search will probably turn up numerous results. Go through as many as you can and if you find a common thread running through all the sources, you can take that as confirmation that your computer problems have indeed been caused by registry error.

3- Run a registry repair scan on your computer

Registry errors are best rectified by using any reputable registry repair software. Attempting to do it yourself would involve manually backing-up your system and painstakingly editing each and every entry in the registry. This could be horrendously time-consuming and worse still; the smallest error could result in an irretrievable loss of valuable data as well as damage to the system.

Instead, do a search for ‘registry cleaning and repair software’ and read through various forums and reviews on the pros and cons of the different programs available. Choose one that best meets your requirements and preferences and download it. You could avail of any one of the free online registry-scan offers so you can get a better feel of how the software works as well as its effectiveness. The best part of most registry repair software is that they are simple to install, easy to use and very time and cost-effective.

Once downloaded and installed onto your computer registry repair software makes a quick back-up of your computer and trims down the bloated registry by removing obsolete and redundant files and repairing those that are corrupted. This helps the operating system get faster access to the information held within the registry, thus improving the speed and efficiency of the computer tremendously. Programming your software to do a regular maintenance on your registry will keep your computer fighting fit all the time, making slow speeds, baffling error messages and mysterious crashes a thing of the past.

Here’s a quick recap of how registry repair software benefits your computer:

It offers you the convenience and protection of a quick back-up as well as a restore point
Scans your registry bad files and obsolete data and makes whatever changes it deems necessary
Clears the clutter that slows down your computer and enhances the speed as well as the efficiency of the computer
